Saving the Farm

We have a lot to talk about this week, and a lot to be thankful for here in our Sweetwater Community!  Just this morning in the second of two hearings, our rezoning application was approved!  Thanks to the hundreds of letters and petition signatures showing support for our rezoning application before our first hearing (back in February) – the Commission voted in favor of approving our application.  We did it!  This is what “community” is all about.

Now that we know we can continue all of our important work here at the Farm, we hope you’ll join us for some of our amazing events we have planned for the remainder of the season.  Beginning this weekend with the Raw Food Fair on Saturday and Rick’s Composting 101 Workshop on Sunday.  You’ve got to come to our end of season celebration, our 19th annual PestoFesto on the 30th.  And check out our newest program – the Sweetwater Supper Club – beginning in May!  Join us as we continue to raise funds for the Farm and have a really great time doing it!!

This is also a favorite time of year for our CSA Members.  It’s time for summer squash!  We have zucchini, yellow squash and soon, patty pan squash. All are growing well with this warm weather, so expect to see more and more of these as the weeks go by. The tomato crops are also growing very well, the plants are now reaching 3 feet high and getting ready to flower. We hope to begin harvesting Sungold and Black Cherry tomatoes in a few weeks. Another crop we are looking forward to in the next few weeks is the potatoes, All-Blue, Cranberry Red and Yukon Gold.

This week is National Volunteer Appreciation Week.  Sweetwater wouldn’t be possible without the help of our many dedicated member and non-member volunteers.     In addition to event help, we also need help in the fields weeding our crops, come and join us Wednesday through Sunday starting at 8:30am.

Peace
